Blue / Sugar

colors, destination, feelings, home, love, mind, poem, poetry

.                                 .                                     .

I pranced through the sweet smell of strawberry,

Gushing my feet on the growing stalks of licorice.

This was my hiding place.

The air was warm and embracing as I strolled through the forest.

I twirled along the way of gigantean gum drops and rolling wafers,

Quickly grabbing pieces to feed my mouth and the pockets of my dress.

The taste caused me to inhale in excitement and exhale with the thought of it ending.

I continued my race and suddenly

I felt cold drops against my arm.

I raised it to inspect with curious eyes,

And found a milky substance running against my skin.

I licked it.

‘Ice cream’ I thought to myself with a smile.

I tilted my head back with my arms extended like wings

And let the sweet rain fall into my taste buds

I soon slid through the licorice ground

And into the chocolate pond,

Splash!

I held onto a floating marshmallow

And bobbed up and down the stream.

I looked into the distance and saw something shine

I let the stream guide me towards its enticing light,

I’d never seen such a glow before my eyes as in this moment.

I stepped off my float

And eased out of the stream.

Drenched in chocolate milk,

I peered up at what was before me.

A Glass Jolly rancher mountain oozed a beautiful display.

At the peak fell what sounded like pounds of rushing water,

Yet had the appearance of sand.

It sparkled like silver and seemingly never stopped falling.

But the best part, was the color.

It was brightest blue in all the world.

I stood in amazement at a beauty no one would witness,

Only I.

I imagined it felt soft like butter

So I raised my shaking fingers to touch the descending mystery.

Right before my anxious tips could feel the smooth texture,

I was yanked away from the mountain.

I desperately flailed my arms to reach the mountain again,

But it was too late.

I begin to fly away,

Past the highest stems of lollipops

And through the clouds of cotton candy.

Right before I closed my eyes,

I looked down.

And there stood the brightest, bluest phenomenon glowing extrovertly.

I smiled, then exhaled

  1. I soo enjoyed Blue Sugar, I love the way this piece started off so whimsical and settled into something serious, but not too serious and relevant! I love how the wording initially took me to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and then brought me back down to reality. I soo get how things can happen in life that can be tantamount to a supernova and others although important as well, lesser than a supernova. Keep the blog going and keep shining your light on poetic creative writing… Shaye j.
